Back on the island

London, England
Well, it was a great holiday! I stepped off the plane in Austin to 75 degree weather and immediately had a nice jog around Town Lake. The weather did get a bit colder, but I had a wonderful time visiting with friends and former professors while in the Texas capital. Went on to Baton Rouge after about five days in Austin, and spent time with family and friends in BR and New Orleans. Wow, I missed Louisiana food so it was good to get some of that. We had my dad's traditional crawfish lasagna for Christmas dinner -- can't beat it.
I rushed back to England for a New Year's celebration in London with kid sister, big sister, bro-in-law, and a host of friends from the US. After a few days in London and a day showing my friends and fam around my lovely village of Cambridge, I was off to Italy with Adam Newcomer, Adam Lessing, and kid sister.
Awesome trip -- stayed with Gianluca in Sasso, which is his home village in the pre-Alps. We saw Trent, Verona, and a few other tiny (and beautiful) towns. Then on to Florence and finally Venice. One bit worth mentioning: we had a major flight delay in Venice due to fog, and we were treated terrible by RyanAir. I understand that they are a low cost carrier -- so what can you expect? -- but if you have the option, then I suggest finding other transportation means.
I'm back in Cambridge now, trying to hammer out a few papers that are due in the coming days. I've got about 7,000 more words to write -- not bad, really, considering the term was fairly chill.
Here are some pics from the winter trip. Click here.
